About AVIF File Format

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a modern image file format based on the AV1 video codec. AVIF is developed by the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia), which is a consortium of companies and organizations aiming to develop open, royalty-free technologies for multimedia delivery over the internet. The AV1 codec itself is designed to offer significant improvements in compression efficiency over existing standards while maintaining good visual quality. AVIF leverages the capabilities of the AV1 video codec to compress high-quality images efficiently. It supports various advanced features such as: High Efficiency: AVIF typically offers better compression efficiency compared to other image formats like JPEG, PNG, and WebP, especially for high-resolution images. Wide Color Gamut: AVIF supports a wide range of color spaces, including high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamuts, allowing for more vibrant and accurate colors in images. Alpha Transparency: AVIF supports alpha channel transparency, allowing for high-quality transparent images with smooth edges and soft shadows. Animation: Similar to the animated WebP format, AVIF can also support animation by encoding a sequence of images into a single AVIF file. Lossless Compression: AVIF supports both lossy and lossless compression modes, providing flexibility depending on the specific requirements of the image.

About WEBP File Format

WebP is a lossy compression type image file format, just like JPEG, developed by Google and thought to replace other image file formats on the internet world. Google years ago developed a new visual extension, WebP, together with WebM video technology, and made it available as of 2012. The feature of WebP is that it compresses just like JPG, but unlike JPG, WebP shaves off the unimportant details on the image and saves 40% of storage space in terms of file size compared to JPEG. In other words, with WebP, visual files are compressed as closely as possible to the original version, allowing only the details to disappear, and occupying a minimum of 40% less storage space, especially JPEG and other file formats. Thanks to the WebP extension, both the load on the servers is much less and the visual files are opened 40% faster than other files by the users' devices. Especially considering the fact that the internet world is colorful now, the WebP file format is really important for both users and webmasters.
