The AV1 codec itself is designed to offer significant improvements in compression efficiency over existing standards while maintaining good visual quality. AVIF leverages the capabilities of the AV1 video codec to compress high-quality images efficiently. It supports various advanced features such as: High Efficiency: AVIF typically offers better compression efficiency compared to other image formats like JPEG, PNG, and WebP, especially for high-resolution images. Wide Color Gamut: AVIF supports a wide range of color spaces, including high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamuts, allowing for more vibrant and accurate colors in images. Alpha Transparency: AVIF supports alpha channel transparency, allowing for high-quality transparent images with smooth edges and soft shadows. PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a compressed image file format used in digital devices. The biggest disadvantage of the PNG file is that all image information is changed again during viewing. The biggest advantage of the PNG file is undoubtedly the space it saves for the user when the compression process is done. A PNG file offers 10% to 30% greater area performance when compressed than the GIF file format. Therefore, although it is an old compression method, the PNG file format has not lost its validity yet.
