WebP is a lossy compression type image file format, just like JPEG, developed by Google and thought to replace other image file formats on the internet world. Google years ago developed a new visual extension, WebP, together with WebM video technology, and made it available as of 2012. The feature of WebP is that it compresses just like JPG, but unlike JPG, WebP shaves off the unimportant details on the image and saves 40% of storage space in terms of file size compared to JPEG. In other words, with WebP, visual files are compressed as closely as possible to the original version, allowing only the details to disappear, and occupying a minimum of 40% less storage space, especially JPEG and other file formats. Thanks to the WebP extension, both the load on the servers is much less and the visual files are opened 40% faster than other files by the users' devices. Especially considering the fact that the internet world is colorful now, the WebP file format is really important for both users and webmasters.
